Hate Crime Awareness Week

Published: Tuesday, 1 October 2024

We want you to feel safe in your home and for all our estates and neighbourhoods to be places where people can go about their business without fear or harassment.

That's why we're once again supporting National Hate Crime Awareness Week, which runs from 12 to 19 October. Find out more here: www.nationalhcaw.uk

What is Hate Crime?
Nottinghamshire Police records hate crimes within any one (or more) of the following categories: disability, race, religion/faith, sexual orientation, transgender identity, misogyny, alternative subculture, or other.

We do not tolerate it and we’ll always take the strongest action against anybody committing any acts of hate and support victims.

Report it
Research into hate crime shows that, unfortunately, most people who are victims of a hate crime chose not to report it. Please do.

Our Housing Patch Managers are trained to investigate reports of hate crime and to be supportive and sensitive to the needs of victims.

All complaints are taken seriously and we investigate them thoroughly and sensitively.

You can report Hate Crime to us in the following ways:

Call the police on 101 or in an emergency or if you feel at risk, dial 999.

You can also report hate crime online at www.report-it.org.uk

Don’t be a bystander

It can be difficult to approach someone who may need help – but you could be someone’s lifeline by asking someone if they’re ok, or by calling the police if you’re worried someone is in immediate danger.

Remember that witnesses, as well as victims, can report a hate crime.

If it is an emergency or if you, or a resident feels at risk, dial 999.
