Council and Fire Service work together to keep Victoria Centre safe

We're working with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) and Savills, the company that manages Nottingham’s Victoria Centre, on an initiative to deliver fire safety training for existing and new firefighters this week. 

The training will take place at the Victoria Centre on Huntingdon Street, and in the 450+ flats above, some of which are 26 storeys high. The date set is this Thursday (16 May), although if NFRS get a call out to attend a live fire incident on the day, the training will be rescheduled.

During the training, firefighters will access the roof of the flats, and there will also be up to four fire appliances parked on Glasshouse Street.

Cllr Jay Hayes, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said, “We welcome the opportunity to work with our blue light partners and with stakeholder organisations such as Savills on initiatives such as this that contribute to the safety of everyone in Nottingham. 

“If we can work together in supporting the Fire Service to keep citizens safe, every single one of us benefits.”

Station Manager for Prevention at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, Richard Booth, said: “Training like this alongside our partners helps us to perform the best should there be a real-life emergency.

“We train in lots of different places all the time, so we are ready for when people need us.”

The training will cause the minimum of disruption to residents of the Victoria Centre flats and to shoppers visiting the Centre.
