Council and Fire Service work together to keep people safe

Nottingham City Council (NCC) and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) will work together on an initiative to deliver fire safety training for existing and new firefighters this week.
The training will take place at the 17-storey Ash View high rise block that forms part of The Woodlands in Radford. The planned date is Friday 23 February, although if NFRS get a call out to attend a live fire incident on the day, the training will be rescheduled.
On the day, a hose will be run from a fire engine to the dry riser inlet outside Ash View, and another hose from the dry riser outlet on the 17th floor up to the roof.
Cllr Jay Hayes, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said, “We welcome the opportunity to work with our blue light partners on initiatives such as this that contribute to the safety of everyone in Nottingham.
“As a council, we look after 13 high rise blocks, and there are many more in the city. If we can support the Fire Service to continue to keep citizens safe, every single one of us benefits.”
NFRS Watch Manager Rhys Powell said: “We train all the time to improve our skills and be best prepared for if a real-life emergency happens.
“Thank you to residents at Ash View and to Nottingham City Council for allowing us to do this high-rise training. We hope we never have to put it into practice.”
The training will cause the minimum of disruption to residents of Ash View and the other Woodlands high rise blocks.
