Celebrating Halloween safely
Published: Wednesday, 25 October 2023
With Halloween fast approaching have fun, keep safe and think of others.
Halloween is a time of year when people want to go out and have fun. However, it's also a time when we can see an increase in anti-social behaviour.
Our message this and every Halloween is to have fun, stay safe and please think of others.
Here are some useful tips to make sure your Halloween is an enjoyable time for everybody:
- make sure children are accompanied by an adult when out trick or treating and talk to them before you head out about keeping safe
- if children are dressing up, keep clear of candles. Use LED lights rather than tea light candles in pumpkins if you can
- remember road safety when out in the dark - wear something bright if you can
- respect people's homes by keeping any 'tricks' safe - don't throw flour, eggs, let off fireworks or cause any damage
- Halloween can be stressful for the elderly or those that live alone. Please think about your neighbours - only go to the houses of people you know and who are happy for you to call round and don't call at houses that have 'no trick or treat' posters on show
- stay safe - keep to well-lit areas and places you know and never be tempted to go in someone's house if you don't know them
- if you're having a Halloween party at home, please let your neighbours know beforehand and if it goes on until late - keep the noise low
- and if you're driving, be aware that there may be more people about, including children so please drive slowly and remain vigilant
