Pension Credit Week of Action runs from 12 to 16 June. Up to 850,000 families who are entitled to Pension Credit, haven't claimed it.

It only takes a few minutes to check you're getting all you're entitled to.

Pension Credit means that, if you're of pensionable age, you need not live on less than £201.05 a week if you're single or £306.85 if you're a couple. You might also get help with housing costs, council tax and if you're over 75, a free TV licence.

What’s more, if you reached State Pension Age before 6 April 2016, you may be entitled to extra money if you've made some provision towards your retirement - savings or a private pension, for example. This is called the Savings Credit and could be up to £15.94 for a single person or £17.84 for a couple a week.

Tom Smith, Tenancy Sustainment Manager from Housing Services said: “I can’t stress enough the difference a friend or relative can make by doing a bit of research and talking to older relatives about what help is available.

"Our Team helps lots of people who have been missing out on Pension Credit because they wrongly think it isn’t meant for them. You might still get extra money even if you have some savings."

One of our Tenancy Sustainment Officers helped Mr and Mrs C recently. Mrs C was the carer for her disabled husband. They were just receiving State Retirement Pension. We helped get Attendance Allowance for Mr C and this allowed Mrs C to having underlying entitlement to Carers Allowance, making them eligible for Pension Credit. They are now £135.15 better off per week!
